SNOW!!!! On December 4th in Portland!!!
About 2” of snow, in fact…. Should we count that as a win for the squirrels?
After all, according to KOIN, mathematically the average first snowfall is December 26, and the earliest ever recorded (only 0.1”) was November 11 in 1955.
I don’t think it’s an inaccurate phrase to say “the squirrels beat the odds.”
Oh, and speaking of timing and the 50’s – my fantabulous 1950’s Woolrich hunting pants arrived from Etsy a day before the snow! The Woolrich company was founded in 1830 to supply lumberjacks in Pennsylvania. Interestingly, in 1850, they created the ubiquitous and iconic outdoor pattern – the red buffalo check (or, “plaid” to you, civilian), which was supposedly named because the designer owned a herd of buffalo.
